OK, remember this is a debate board, and I am going to play devil's advocate here, so please let's play nice.

Yeah, I know but what ARE points? How does it go from a number on the statement to something a person can actually use? I know every company is different, but what are some examples?

That's why I won't use a card with reward "points" or "miles".

I got the RCCL card and know the value of what I am getting. ITA with you though if you don't know if it would be worth it.

I totally understand that. The points are good for 5 years and since we are going in 2 years, we are going to rack up the points. We love cruising so this will probably work for us in the future also.

The cash back plans sound better for someone like me. I don't shop enough at any one particular place to make the other sort of plan worthwhile. Also, I'm really bad at remembering to pay bills, so with my debit card, when I pay for it, it's paid for and I don't have to worry about seeing a bill for it again.

My regular visa card from my bank earns me cash back from certain stores. The bank also offers different CCs geared towards specific consumer patterns. For example, they have one card for women (ugh!) called "Go Shop" that earns cash back from most of the clothing shops you might find in a mall, that sort of thing. Since I decline all their attempts to give me more cards, I just have the basic visa, but even on that I do sometimes get 5% back on some purchase or another.
