Before you defined "hands on" as giving chores and setting curfews. Now you are including "encouraging a great education." It would be nice if you would give a fuller account of what it is that you see as hands on parenting (as well as specific examples of how a parent would encourage a great education).

Humph... you mean the OTHER Fine jesuit school .... LOL... I should have known I wasn't supposed to like you ...we're still smarting from the whole Doug Flutie era LOL

how's this for a story? my dad who grew up in New haven was accepted to Yale -- this was in 1934 -- the tuition was $400 and he couldn't afford it. He instead moved to Florida and went to the University of Miami!

How great that you knew the field of employment you would choose even before stepping foot in college.

Can I ask why he applied to Yale knowing the tuition?

you can ask i but I"m sure I don't know the answer -- did I mention it was 1934 ? LOL -- he may NOT have known the tuition, he may have thought he coudl get scholarships I don't know. I know he grew up in East Haven the child of two deaf parents who were both immigrants so my guess is there wasn't a whole lot of help through this process for him.

it was one of his favorite stories to tell though!
