I don't entirely agree with everything the writer says here, but I do think she makes some extremely valid points. Thoughts?

::: I Hate David Dellifield. The One From Ada, Ohio.

This past week was Spring Break and toward the end, somehow my ex and my nanny fell out of the picture, and I was doing a lot of taking care of the kids, which, I have said before, is not what I’m great at. I wish I were. I tried for four years to be a stay-at-home mom, only to discover that I am not meant to do that.

So, in a moment of innocent desperation, I wrote on Twitter: No school today and the nanny's on vacation. A whole day with the kids gets so boring: all intergalactic battles and no intellectual banter.”

I almost didn’t post that Twitter because it’s so banal.

But, in just seconds, because that’s how Twitter works, there was a firestorm of men telling me that I’m a bad mom. Really. Yes.

Here’s one from David Dellifield:
“@penelopetrunk sorry your kids are a burden, send them to OH, we'll enjoy them for who they are” :::

.... and the article continues here:

>> I taught them their ABC's and 123's. That is, any parent will tell you, one hell of a hard thing to do. <<

You know, I never found it that hard.

I'm glad you've had the experiences you have had, and feel the way you do about them. I don't and haven't approached parenting the same way, personally. There have been times when the experience of parenting has made me very happy indeed, and times when it just plain sucked. While I am absolutely a better person thanks to having been a parent, I have simply never viewed it with what I call the soft-focus, Parenting Magazine, Hallmark Channel lens.

I thought explaining quadratic equations was a lot harder than teaching John to count or recite his ABCs.

>> listening to Mom and Dads music, <<

Oh, that's rich. My child is growing up too fast by listening to The Beatles? (which is technically his grandparent's music as well as mine)

As for the baking and gardening... has it occurred to you that some kids LIKE doing those things? I am awfully glad I spent time with my grandmother doing exactly those two activities because they were fun, and practical.

Methinks the benefit is more for the parent than the child.

ROFL! (wipes away tear of laughter) Yeah, helping my mom make brownies and dancing around to salsa are certainly some of the horror-filled memories of my early childhood!

I'm thinking of changing my pie chart to "The Consequences of Underage Baking" ;)
