I don't believe that children that have parents that work outside of the house are at a disadvantage... I also don't believe that children that have a parent that stays at home somehow benifit.

In my dd it is more like a strongly held belief. Since I am the mean mom who said she started making her child try foods she "knew" she didn't like & now she likes many things-I know it's not real (except in their own mind.)

In fact last night I cut up a Tuscan style cantelope. I personally don't care for melons or cantelope, but I can eat them, they just arent't that good to me. But I cut it up, because I thought it was going to go bad soon & I was going to try to urge everyone to have that for a snack after dinner so it would get eaten up before it went bad. I tried it & it was really at it's peak of ripeness and really really tasted good, even to me. Dh & my older dd promptly devoured half of it. When I cut up the 2nd half, I urged younger dd (aka picky eater child) to try it. She said no, I don't like cantelope. I told her no try it, I don't like cantelope either & this is good, she tried a bite & wouldn't give me back the rest of the piece of cantelope & took several more pieces.

And in food easier to adjust to than fruit--after trying them many more times over the last 2 years, she has begun to take 2nd servings of a few things that she would never touch & eat so begrudgingly before.

Ok thanks for the explanation, that makes sense--what I read earlier, I did try cooking with both my children as a way to get them to try things.

I did try cooking with mine, but she never wanted to try new things even if she cooked them. I didn't try growing veggies, we don't have a good set-up for that.

That did not work for us. We could eat whatever we wanted, that never made my picky eater girl try anything in the long run. Many many things in life have to be taught, many many things are not just picked up automatically by example.

LOL, I hardly ever make shells. My odd, who is not picky, doesn't like them because they stick together (the smaller ones).

Yep & I still thing the title of this thread is the answer. But it beats a totally dead slow board.

LOL, true. When there's nothing to debate, debate over nothing.

I can tell the difference in taste and texture among different types of pasta. We most often have tortellini and ravioli as side dishes, or spaghetti, linguini or lasagna as main dishes. I never buy shells or bowties. I don't know why, they just don't have the same kind of "bite" to me. Call me nuts. And certain kinds of sauces go with certain pasta shapes. We love clams but only with linguini. Meatballs, but only with spagetti. Meat tortellini, but cheese ravioli, or mushroom and cheese ravioli.

We are not OCD. Not a bit.

Why would it be any different than any other rule and/or action that wasn't actually eating?

For example, we also have a rule about no phone calls or texting during the family meal, that doesn't mean that it's the focus of the meal.

We don't either...well, I guess that's not exactly true....I like to try new recipes all the time, so that's kinda playing, lol.
