Dh and I went to an Indian place for dinner last night. (GREAT!)

As we were about done with our dinner, a lady with her 5 kids, ages about 14 to 6,

Choose your friends by their character and your socks by their color.  Choosing your socks by their character makes no sense and choosing your friends by their color is unthinkable.

That is how Marie is WRT her carseat. Except that I don't find it embarrassing.

BTW, my neighbor's son refused to ride w/o training wheels when he was almost 7 y/o. His mom was more embarrassed than he was (even though the rest of us didn't think it was a big deal). She kept pointing out that Marie was riding w/o training wheels and she was a girl a year younger (she was trying to motivate him). Then one day Dominic kept riding by his house last summer when he was 3.5 y/o. It irked the mom to no end! I guess it finally motivated him b/c next thing we knew he was begging his dad to take off the training wheels and he learned that day how to ride without them. Anyway, Peter will figure it out eventually. I know that my Joey won't be riding as early as Dominic was - he has always been much slower when it comes to physical things. He just learned to ride his tricycle this summer, a whole year older than Dominic was.

The best player on my dd's(13 yo) basketball team was only 5'3". There were two girls on the team who are about 5'11, they weren't as good as the shorter girl.

I have a little basketball player, too. He is 13 and just over 5'1. His coaches have commented on his incredible court sense -- he knows where everyone is, and where the ball is, and though he seldom makes a point, he gets the ball and gets it to the shooters. He is all over the place and as scrappy as they come. He's actually very fun to watch, and not only because I'm his Mom. He just looks like he's having a great time out there (he is) and he's so happy on the court it's contagious.

Probably b/c at that age, they are still somewhat "gawky" for lack of a better word. I don't mean that negatively, just that they aren't accustomed yet to their height.

I think you are right. My dd(5'7") grew about 8 inches in a year, she was really clumsy for awhile.

Here is a link to a website that calculates height/weight percentiles (and BMI, too) for children.

My DD, who is a year younger than my DS, is the same size as he is (truth be told, she actually outweighs him by a pound).

I think most of the laws are OR instead of AND. So a 6 yrs/60 lbs law means once the child is 6 years old OR 60 lbs they legally don't need a booster any more.

Exactly. He sounds like my son before he grew. He still is scrappy, though, all over the place, and like you said good court sense. That is something that can't be taught and a kid who has that will likely be a good athlete. It is a good coach who recognizes that. A lot of the less experienced coaches focus on the points, but as we well know it is a team effort.

My boys are 20 mos. apart. My older son, Dan will be 13 in Feb and Keith was 11 last week. Keith caught up in size when they were back in the first and second grades. He has surpassed Dan and is now about 4 inches taller and about 40-50 pounds heavier than Dan. People always do a double take when I tell them Dan is the older of the two. At times I can see that they want to ask me "Are you sure?" LOL! If you go on my family photo album, you can see what I mean. Look at the first picture of the two of them. Keith, on the left is the younger of the two by 20 mos.
