I was taking a class recently from a well known designer--she is on the design team for a couple of companies, she teaches classes, writes articles, and sells her own creations from time to time online.

She started her introduction by saying "I'm a stay at home mom who also....." and then went on to describe what she does professionally.

I was unemployed for six weeks in 2005 and during that time I said freely that I was "staying at home with liza" until I got another job.

I was a SAHM for those six weeks -- not necessarily a terribly good one LOL -- but I was one!

Heh, I have a similar experience with my Pampered Chef rep. She's a lovely lady and she's extremely successful in the business. But she always calls herself a SAHM. :) I just figure, it's not the place to discuss it. Mostly, I only nit pick the designation on this board. I mean, heck, by lots of people's definitions, *I'm* a SAHM (because I don't work 9-5). Never mind that I WOH FT :)

Because of the debate nature, we have to agree on the basic terms or we'd just go insane. Outside of a debate forum, tho, I don't really see the big deal. If someone working full time--inside or outside the home--for a paycheck that they either pay themselves or someone else pays them, they can call themselves a duck for all I care :)

But I know what you mean; it's kind of funny to hear.

In that case, whatever you considered yourself to be, you weren't a ptwohm.

If you're a student, then you're neither a WOHM or a SAHM, nor any of the pt versions thereof.

I could see someone who works night shift saying something like: "I'm a SAHM during the day and work nights at the hospital."
