I was taking a class recently from a well known designer--she is on the design team for a couple of companies, she teaches classes, writes articles, and sells her own creations from time to time online.

She started her introduction by saying "I'm a stay at home mom who also....." and then went on to describe what she does professionally.

Makes you want to ask the kids to "bring Mommy her bourbon", doesn't it? LOL

Most of the SAHMs I know have FT nannies. The mothers do not work because they do not have to, but that does not mean that they do not have other (and perhaps more interesting) things to do than provide childcare 24/7.

I think people bring up the school thing because they are curious to know if you will still consider yourself a FT mom when your son starts school.

Of course it is normal. I just think it is something a mother (or father, my BIL has it very bad) should seriously work on getting over, for his/her own sake, but especially for the child's sake.

Yes, although it is not imagination. I have seen it up close and personal with BIL's kids. A parent who can not bear to be out of sight of his/her child becomes a problem for the child eventually.

"It's like hearing someone say "Good morning" and someone else saying "What exactly do you mean by 'good'? What's so 'good' about it? Are you saying that other times of day are bad? What do you have against afternoons or evenings?"

LOL, I thought that was called having a teenager (it has been a BAD morning down here).

I think that parents of NICU babies are especially susceptibel to not being willing to leave them for long periods of time b/c those early weeks and months are so scary... I have a few friends who had preemies or babies with health concerns early on and they're the same way.

And even I the happy go lucky skip down the driveway of daycare bawled like a baby the first time I had to take a 5 night business trip when Liza was just over a year old.... you're not alone.

Liza's godfather once gave me this great birthday card with a photo fo a woman circa 1960 with a martini and a cigarette talking to a little girl and on the inside it said "that's a precious story Sally, now be a dear and get mommy another martini would you?"

I framed it.
