I was taking a class recently from a well known designer--she is on the design team for a couple of companies, she teaches classes, writes articles, and sells her own creations from time to time online.

She started her introduction by saying "I'm a stay at home mom who also....." and then went on to describe what she does professionally.

If you really cannot imagine a whole list of reasons that a mom might feel uncomfortable with leaving a 17-month old, that do not include "it will cause mental trauma for the child which will affect them all of their life", well....I'd imagine that you probably can. :)

There doesn't seem to be much objective evidence of the "one true meaning" of SAHP around anywhere, other than in a forum such as this one, in which some seem to think it means just what it says.

Because that mother has interests outside of their child and need childcare in order to attend them?

Not really; but maybe it's not actually about "reasons" as such, or else Mallory might have tried to elucidate.

Maybe we just need to pulverize this horse into the ground a tiny bit more for it to go away.

Am I correct in assuming that by "full time mother" you mean a mother who is *with her children* full-time, NOT that a mother somehow ceases to be a mother during the times that she is away from her children?

If my DS handled car rides better, I would definitly bring him along. However, the driving time would be too much for him.

That was my first reaction as well. My DH and I just decided yesterday (after 2 weeks of worrying) that we weren't going to make the trip to the wedding. Not that it really matters, but I should mention, that this wedding is for one of my old coworkers...not
