Kids as an "excuse" to stay home

No one would likely ever admit to this...but what percentage of women who stay at home, and have no plans to ever return to the work force, or to do more than work PT...stay home because of the kids, but also for the major fact that they simply don't want to work?

I don't love my job every second, and there's definitely jobs out there that I don't think I could get out of bed for every day. But the idea of never working again, and being completely dependent on my spouse...kind of blows my mind. I realize not everyone's of the same ilk, and one's not better than the other.

I do wonder how many of the women who go on and on about how great it is to be home with the kids, are primarily just relieved to not have to punch the clock every day in addition to being mom.

I think it is wonderful that someone can admit that if they could they would spend more time with their kids!!!

I don't think it's really all that unusual. I know lots of WOHPs who said if they could, they would like to spend more time with their kids. Generally when the opportunity shows itself, they do take advantage of it.

Actually, when my kids were very small I *did* want to spend more time with them. I went back to work when my older one was 8 months old, and if I had had my way, I would have stayed home with him at least a year. But they wouldn't let me take that long a leave and I really wanted to go back to my job "someday." The kind of work I do, there aren't that many openings. There are something like three people doing my job in my entire state. So I went back to work. My kid did fine. I didn't need to be with my kids 24/7 to love them, enjoy them, nurture them, raise them.....

Do you really and truly not know a single man or women who works not to avoid their family but because they enjoy their paid work?

and why does one need to validate why they choose to stay at home and not work?

Because grown people support themselves financially unless they have a good reason not to do so?
