Kids as an "excuse" to stay home

No one would likely ever admit to this...but what percentage of women who stay at home, and have no plans to ever return to the work force, or to do more than work PT...stay home because of the kids, but also for the major fact that they simply don't want to work?

I don't love my job every second, and there's definitely jobs out there that I don't think I could get out of bed for every day. But the idea of never working again, and being completely dependent on my spouse...kind of blows my mind. I realize not everyone's of the same ilk, and one's not better than the other.

I do wonder how many of the women who go on and on about how great it is to be home with the kids, are primarily just relieved to not have to punch the clock every day in addition to being mom.

You're welcome. Just to warn you, sewing can be addicting. And think of all the money you won't be saving by sewing it yourself. :) Fabric isn't cheap. I should say that good quality fabric isn't cheap. I'm here if you have any questions.

"I always find it fascinating that so much occurs only during working hours, lol."

And I find it so fascinating that nothing occurs while parents are at work and that so many are able to WOH full time and still be there for everything and "not miss a thing.", lol ;)

When I worked FTOH, I knew I was missing stuff. Sometimes it broke my heart, sometimes it wasn't that big of a deal. I tried my best for sure, but of course a lot occurred when I wasn't there. It was part of the deal in working a 40 hour a week job with an hour commute in addition.

I mean, from 8:30pm to 6:30pm, they were sleeping. Sure, we were "together", but yeah not so much interaction during those hours.

You did mean 6:30am, right? I wish that Dylan slept those hours before he started school. He didn't go to bed until almost 10pm and woke up between 7 and 8am. Of course, he also took an afternoon nap of 2-3 hours until he started Kindergarten. I don't know when he would have given up his afternoon nap on his own. Afternoon Kindergarten did that for him. In fact, I see Dylan less now that he is in school and after school program than I did when he only went to dc. Most kids are in dc for about 32 hours a week. About the same amount of time they are in school full time.

Can you show me the post where someone said they did not miss a thing or that nothing occurs during those hours?

I only remember seeing people talk about the value of not missing things, I do not recall anyone claiming they never missed a single thing. In fact, I think I held the extreme view on this one because when I worked in day care, the kids rarely had "firsts" at day care. Most of them liked to try out their first steps or first words on mom & dad. I was told that was unusual, even by working moms. The consensus by working moms was that it was just as special the first time you see it as it was the first time they do it. (Now that I am actually experiencing day care from the other side, I understand their point.)

I am curious about the posts you reference.
