Kids as an "excuse" to stay home

No one would likely ever admit to this...but what percentage of women who stay at home, and have no plans to ever return to the work force, or to do more than work PT...stay home because of the kids, but also for the major fact that they simply don't want to work?

I don't love my job every second, and there's definitely jobs out there that I don't think I could get out of bed for every day. But the idea of never working again, and being completely dependent on my spouse...kind of blows my mind. I realize not everyone's of the same ilk, and one's not better than the other.

I do wonder how many of the women who go on and on about how great it is to be home with the kids, are primarily just relieved to not have to punch the clock every day in addition to being mom.

I don't deny that you have worked harder since being a sahm BUT I have 2 jobs, one I have to answer to a boss from 9-5 on M-F, and one I have at home with my kids from 5pm-9am. One the weekend I work from 5pm (Friday night) to 9am (Monday morning).

We just recently went on vacation and while I was on vacation away from work, I was still working my 2nd job as a mom.

All moms "work" and it is hard for all of us :)

Not sure if I missed something in this thread but didn't edg say she HAD a choice to work or not and she has not because her dh makes enough money to satisfy their sol?

I think we share a similar philosophy about money - spend a lot less than comes in.

I'm not sure what your point is in pointing that out since I very clearly said she wasn't that heartbroken about it, but I was. PKA asked me to give an example of a "heartbreaking" miss-out, and I gave it. I didn't realize we were going back to the child vs. parent issues...especially since it wasn't originally in that context.

<<You'd have more choices, too, if you made $100,000 a year.>>

Not necessarily.
