How did your household income/potential income influence the number of children in your family? Did you and dh stop at a certain number of kids because you wanted to be able to provide certain things for each child?

Not everyone leads the charmed life."

LOL! Oh yes charmed life. I was married at 22, divorced at 24. I left my x with exactly NOTHING, took nothing from him, and rented a one bedroom appt and worked my way up the ranks. Met my DH a year later, we got married when I was 29. I am fortunate I didnt have college loans to deal with. Reason 100 why I wouldnt saddle my kids with any when we don't need to.

What does it matter how long I took to pay it off anyways?"

Your story is inconsistent. But maybe not, maybe just bad accounting/money mgt.

My opinion is that my kids will be "saddling" THEMSELVES with debt and I may or may not help them with that. No silver spoons in my drawer. I think it is fine if you gift that to your children and they are fortunate to be handed that gift. We look at what paying for our children's education does for them differently. As I said...I MAY do the same...but even if I had the money I would have to know they appreciate it."

Right. Kids need to grovel for what they get. LOL.
I appreciated my parents paying for my school. And I still started working my first paying job in jr high. Never stopped. Generosity with ones children and them learning the value of money can go hand in hand. It just takes...gasp...good parenting.

Now, see? I thought that was one of the funniest things I have read to date on this board! DD asked why I was looking at the computer screen and laughing.

Why are you so hung up on race as a measure of anything?

Yep that's how our school worked the uniform thing out. For cheerleading and for track and field hockey the three sports I participated in.
We paid for accesories, the school for the uniforms. We did fundraisers to raise money for new "core" stuff. Worked well, and was fun.

Long Island
Have you ever thought about living on an exotic island? One where, within an hour you could drive to the shore with white sandy beaches? One which, without leaving the island, you could go to work; go to the museum and sites of historical importance; send your children to school, and even go to a sprawling park with lush green fields with your family to enjoy a warm summers days picnic? Now imagine that this island is only a short distance from the Big Apple. That island, is Long Island, New York. The one hundred and twenty-five mile long island is home to just under 8 million people. The residents of Long Island have been ranked as being the sixth wealthiest area in the United States. Those 8 million people are divided into 4 different counties: Brooklyn/Kings, Nassau, Suffolk, and Queens, although Brooklyn/Kings and Queens are actually part of New York City, even though they lie on Long Island.
