How did your household income/potential income influence the number of children in your family? Did you and dh stop at a certain number of kids because you wanted to be able to provide certain things for each child?

Post history. Everybody who is agreeing with pumpkinangel (this time) has posted anywhere from 100-thousands of times. Nobody has the stamina to keep up a persona for that long.

Divorce yourself from fridak and post independently for a few days and I'll admit my theory is wrong.

edited to change an embarrassing typo

Pimpinabgel?? Oh, that is great!

I'll post as long as I can ;)
Are you going to divorce yourself from Pimpinabgel?

Oh no. I hope it's all better now? Do you think all of the computers at Ivillage will crash if we both put up a post at the same exact time since we're the same person? I'm sure the Ivillage servers in Missouri won't survive it. I'm picturing servers powered by water wheel or those horses hitched to a circular grist mill type thing. ;)

Yes, it is the case that we all want the best for our children. But you seem to be the only one here who thinks that "best" means little racial and no economic diversity, or that finding the best sports program for our kids means getting them away from poor minority kids.

I don't have to find a community where everyone looks like me and is well-off to find the "best" for my children. I don't have to move to the ghetto to find diversity, either. My son is in a top-notch orchestra where 18% of the children are minority and 18% are on total scholarship (there is a 9% overlap there). We moved one of our children from the local public elementary school, which is 75% white/35% free or reduced lunch, to a (public) magnet elementary which is 56% white and 44% free or reduced lunch -- because we liked the curriculum and atmosphere of the magnet school better. The difference between the minority population in our local middle school and the private school we chose is only 3% (78% to 75%) but I liked the idea of sending the kids to someplace where they would be in the middle of the economic strata rather than at the very top.

LOL. I'm finding this absolutely hysterical. I am sitting at work and I even have a co-worker reading over my shoulder. She can't believe it.
I'd like to know if everyone that agrees with Pimpinabagel are one and the same because they agree with her.

Not very economically diverse.

The school(s) my children attend are 77% white, with 21.5% free/reduced lunches and 86% white and 23% free/reduced lunches. The district is 78% white.

I have lived in neighborhoods, even one when my older son was small, where Caucasians were the minority. It wasn't a problem, in fact we rather liked it. We didn't like that we couldn't afford to buy a home there, so I was glad when we got a chance to move to the midwest.

We don't have to live in the ghetto to have some diversity in our lives.
