Can we please voluntarily end this thread from grlimilakinskeeper, or whatever her screen name is...it's getting too personal, and not very productive.

I stand corrected, however that is the point. They are doctors. The others are not.

But a therapist or psychologist CAN hold a PhD.

It doesn't appear as though you're as knowledgeable about the differences as you thought.

Not particularly religious. I don't know what it was. I'm referring to the late 60's here but the stigma remained well into the 70's. For some reason, people there felt need to point out others failings. Had my mother already married my step father when we moved in, I have a feeling things would have been different. Perhaps people would have gotten to know us before passing judgement. It was obvious my mother was a woman on her own. People quickly figured out she was a DIVORCEE! One with an illigitimate child none the less. People just like kicking people when they're down I guess. Since they could assess, at a glance, we were different, it was easy to exclude us.

While people did relax after mom remarried and they got to know her, I always felt different inside. Not because my parents were divorced but because of how I was treated because they were divorced. Kids don't realize that adults are sometimes stupid.

Have you ever seen the Eye of the Storm video? It's amazing what animals people can become when something makes them feel superior (in the video, a teacher trying to explain prejudice to her class declares that blue eyed kids are better than brown eyed kids and it divides the children. The next day she tells them she lied and it's brown eyed kids who are better. They act WORSE than the blue eyed kids!).

I hung out with the other kids whose parents were divorced. I think our case was a bit different because my mother moved into the neighborhood as a divorcee. Had people known her before the divorce, I don't think they would have acted that way, which would explain that I don't recall people being mean until we moved. It was clear we were not welcome by some. Not all of the neighbors were that way by any means but it doesn't take too many treating you badly to become gun shy.

Oh, when did I say I was shunned by the SAHM's in the park? I don't believe I've ever claimed to have been shunned. I was told I don't love my kids enough to SAH. Not exactly what I'd call a shunning.

LOL, Um no, no one would have mistaken him for mature back then either, lol. We were actually a good match back then. While I was mature for my age, he was immature for his. There's a problem here though. A 19 yo is likely to continue to mature. A 31 yo who hasn't yet may not. You end up with things like a father smoking around his kids because his right to smoke overrides their right to clean air.

Nope on both counts. Are you qualified to make that diagnosis doctor? LOL

But they don't need to be. They don't prescribe medication.

Honestly, read up. Learn something. Saying your children should go to a psychiatrist when they need a family therapist is like saying they need a podiatrist when they need a dentist.

After reading nearly 2600 posts over the last several years, I'd say one would have to be a tree stump to NOT see the pattern.
