Can we please voluntarily end this thread from grlimilakinskeeper, or whatever her screen name is...it's getting too personal, and not very productive.

Cyndi seems to have the mistaken notion that counselors and psychologists are the rejects from med school who couldnt make it as psychiatrists. Which, as the rest of us know, is completely untrue. Its simply a different type of education.

First, let's clarify -- my daughter is 8 YEARS old...she talks with her friends about Barbies, homework, riding her bike and scooter, etc....they're not sitting around having long, drawn-out conversations about her mom and dad divorcing, LOL! she also has PLENTY of adults that she can talk to -- from us as her parents to her aunts & uncles, as well as family friends and teachers. However, kids at this age might not even know that something is bothering them. Sometimes, it takes the right question or statement to open the child up to work through the "stuff" that is there. OF COURSE as her MOM, I take her "pulse" on this issue often. However, as the caretaker that she is, she may or may not want to burden ME with her stuff -- she's that emotionally caring for others. and i don't want her walking around carrying those kinds of burdens on her shoulders.

that depends on the child now, doesn't it? my youngest is the perfect example -- she will talk to just about anybody about just about anything, LOL. It has nothing to do with me writing the check, lol. She's a gabber and ASKED if she could go back and talk to him. She's also very trusting of adults -- no reason why she shouldn't be.

LOL! at 8 years old they're not talking about who's in therapy for what and what was discussed, ROFLOL.....they're typical little girls.
you might want to stop now before you really show off how little you know what you are talking about.

Comparing a psychologist to a psychiatrist is almost like comparing a doctor to a lawyer. Now thats got to be the most misguided, uniformed, and actually, hillarious thing I've heard in ages. Too bad I can't laugh. Its just not funny.
How is it invalid? Clinical psychology and psychiatry are two different things.
Here's a link for you. It's even from Canada, so maybe you'll relate to it better.

In case you're link impaired, here's some highlights for you:
Psychologists “are concerned with the study and management of human behaviour.”
