What type of work do you currently do? Family Childcare Provider, consultant for a kitchen accessories company.
How many hours a week do you spend *working*? Right now the daycare is drop-in/part-time and varies, but when school starts my days will be 7:30-5:30 M-F, 50 hours a week. The consultant work is more of a hobby at this point and I mostly just do orders for family and friends so I'm not out of the house much with that. I'd say 5 hours a month is a lot for right now. When dh is home more consistently I have more time to do the home parties.
If you sah, what type of work did you do prior to sahing? I used to manage a free-standing Birth Center. Prior to that, I did medical billing in a billing office for 5 years, and prior to that I worked in banking for about 5 years.
Do you have a degree in your field, or other? No. But I plan to return to school to get my RN and eventually, someday, become a CNM.
How many years have you been in this profession? I did Navy Family Childcare for a little over 2 years, and I've had my current State license for a year.
Do you consider the work you do a career? It can be, but not for me.
Is your job very social, or somewhat isolated? Very social with the 1-5 crowd, rather isolated from adults :)
If you're a sahm, what types of things do you do for socialization (outside of the kids)? Well, I suppose by the definition I'm *not* a sahm, but I get my socialization from my Church and related church activities, from the parents of my daycare kids (who are friends and/or family), my volunteer work with youth soccer and the teen group I advise (socialization is with the kids' parents, not the kids!), and my MOPs group. Often several of us with get together with our spouses for a night out.
Anything you want to add concerning your work, profession, or career? I really miss the action surrounding the Birth Center and look forward to doing the patient care side of it rather than the business side!

I'm not saying that you didn't make an informed choice. You obviously knew exactly what you wanted to do, and you knew enough about that particular thing to know that you wanted to do it. I'm saying that it's not surprising that many 18 year olds do not know what they want to do, considering they are only aware of a few dozen types of careers.
