NPR's Morning Edition had a story on the other morning about unemployeed parents who are leaving the job search to "stay home and raise their children." I just emailed them this response...

"Friday Morning, I listened with interest at the story by Chris Arnold about parents giving up the job search to stay home with their children. My husband stays home with our children by choice and the topic always intrigues me. However, one phrase was used over and over that made me see red. "Parents are choosing to stay home and raise their children." The implication of this phrase is that parents who work outside the home are NOT raising their children. It implies that nannies and daycare providers are raising the children in their care and not the parents. I can tell you that this implication is offensive to working parents everywhere. My husband would not say he is raising our children and I am not. He may provide more day-to-day childcare, but we are BOTH raising our children.

Sincerely..."

Here is a link to the story if you are interested.

It is an audio clip. Scroll about halfway down and you'll see it.

I wonder if I'll make it on the air?
