Very interesting. Particularly the difference in the middle to upper income kids vs low income.
"I personally feel children need the nurture of their parents and the home," she said. "Those early years, that's when they are bonding to their family. That nurturing, only the family can give that."
I tend to agree.

"Having a child who is "gifted" in math and two who are "talented", the manafestation of each is similar. It's just that one is in academics and the other is the fine arts."
Yes.
"I wish that school districts would reconized the value of the fine (and craft/applied) arts as well as academics."
I agree.
BTW, this is one of the primary reasons we include an arts integrated approach when homeschooling.
"I use oils and soft pastels and 3 hours is not enough by any stretch of the imagination."
Enough for what? BTW, the classes are in drawing, painting, and clay.
"Even you know she'll barely complete even one work."
Actually, she should complete three works (one drawing, one painting, and a clay piece).
"I find it very telling that you're holding this up as an "example" of a group activity you claim your DD is involved in."
So group art classes (12 children per class) isn't an example of a group activity?
<<1. Ignorance wrt the many benefits of afterschool group activities? Please cite.>>
"You were wholly unaware it's common for girls to play baseball nowadays"
Do afterschool group activities = only girls baseball?
"I said the fact that you are ignorant about girls playing baseball nowadays leads me to believe you have not explored afterschool group activities."
Again, Do afterschool group activities = only girls baseball?
"You should sign her up for a team sport before you poo-poo them and cloister her at home. Are you afraid she might enjoy a team sport?"
Do afterschool group activities = only team sports?
"I grew weary of the collective effort to get hk to define "homeschooling""
From post 1342:
"My claim wrt homeschooling is as follows:
Homeschooling = the primary situation through which a child aquires his or her education."
"and decided to try to get her to define "Christmas" instead."
From post :
We define Christmas as a secular, non-Christian holiday.
"to watch as a poster introduces debate points only to take umbrage when others chide her for failing to support them, "
Failing to support points such as?
"But when those questions are directly related to some specious claim that continues to be made despite all evidence to the contrary, "
Questions such as? All evidence to the contrary such as?
"one has to wonder why such a claim was made in the first place."
Ever heard of Occam's Razor (i.e. the simpliest explanation is generally the correct one)?
Which do you think is the simpliest explanation here:
That I have spent 5+ years concocting and devising a completely ficitionalized claim
Or
That I'm simply telling the truth?
BTW, that would be from post 1548:
We define Christmas as a secular, non-Christian holiday.
<
Did you realize that gifted children have special needs just as children with disabilities do?>>
Yes, many reasons. First, yours had nothing to do with my original question to you and you were just trying to deflect. Second, common courtesy dictates you answer my question if you expect an answer to yours. Finally, your question was wholly irrelevant.
Care to address my post now?
<> Oh, I completely agree. With the exception of Chimeara and one or 2 others here, no one has used the correct definition of gifted yet. I merely pointed out that was your definition of gifted and thanked you for what it was worth.
Need we review? Okay, if you insist. How about your #1556: "Homeschooling = the primary situation through which a child acquires his or her education". I see. If my children acquire their education through public school, then public school is by definition homeschooling? News to me. Way to avoid attempting any real definition. And then of course there were several unsupported claims about other posters lying.
Questions such as? How about, "Who IYO does not homeschool?" We see it here in print for about the twelfth time. Not holding my breath for an answer.
