Very interesting. Particularly the difference in the middle to upper income kids vs low income.
"I personally feel children need the nurture of their parents and the home," she said. "Those early years, that's when they are bonding to their family. That nurturing, only the family can give that."
I tend to agree.

I realize the barriers that gifted kids face in a lot of schools. No need to convince me.
The question that I was addressing, however, is what to do if there are limited resources. Say a school district has $100,000 to spend. It needs all of the money to provide help for their MR/learning disabilities kids. To me, if that's all that they've got, they need to spend it on this population.
Edited to add: Sorry, I forgot to answer the sleep/nutrition question. It's been a while, but I think it was covered in some detail. Also, they're really emphasizing the importance of sleep for intern/residents, who are now limited to working no more than 24 hours at a time.
To me, *diagnosis* is important (even it means that the person is "labelled") because identification of the problem is the first step in getting help.

Exactly. So why would a Christian think I was mocking his religion by celebrating family togetherness and an exchange of gifts on a nationally recognized holiday?

I would like an example of when common definitions make communication impossible. There is absolutely no other way to communicate. Even if we argue over the nuances of meaning of a particular word, we must do so by using many more words that must share a common definition. If we each constructed our own meaning for commonly used words, communication would necessarily be impossible -- until someone else learned your construct, at which point you would be right back to using common definitions again.
By the way, as to the homeschooling issue -- the appropriate term for what you do is "afterschooling."
My girls loved them but Dylan isn't interested. He would rather read science books on rocks, dinosaurs, and reptiles.

Sewing. Just as my boss got back from celebrating her 50th wedding anniversary in Indonesia, she got a phone call from her family back there. Her oldest son died suddenly of a heart attack. The whole family turned around and flew back for his funeral. That left just 3 to run the shop. I'm swamped with wedding gowns. We have 21 (and still counting, I'm afraid) weddings for June 24th alone. And July is getting just as crowded.
