Very interesting. Particularly the difference in the middle to upper income kids vs low income.

"I personally feel children need the nurture of their parents and the home," she said. "Those early years, that's when they are bonding to their family. That nurturing, only the family can give that."

I tend to agree.

I am truly suprised that your school doesn't offer any extracurricular activities.

That's a hot debate right now.

our school doesn't either...outside after school care which pretty much occupies the entire campus, there is a once a month chess club for 5th graders only..any other extra activity is either through the y or neighborhood association.

that was something that used to drive me nuts when i coached cheerleading. myself and the lady who helped me were the only moms who woh and yet none of the other mothers could manage to make it to the practices, other than to drop their kids off. and there was always at least one parent who was late picking up their kid and one of us had to wait.

Personally I like when schools offer both, because some children just are not ready for all day and some are.

i cant imagine how location could matter, level of supervision, at 7 my child doesnt need alot of supervision while playing with her friends, selection of activities, my expereince is kids are going to play what they are going to play, and alot of times the selection of activites is great somewhere other than at home, or at least it is a new selection. parental involvement, at 7 i am not really involved in my daughters playdates. so i guess i dont really see how anything you listed is relevant, especially once the child hits school age.

um,the cost of extended care at school is far less expensive than the olden days expense of day care after school......and because today's dual woh family outweighs the family with a sahp, why shouldn't schools comply? *shrug*
