Very interesting. Particularly the difference in the middle to upper income kids vs low income.

"I personally feel children need the nurture of their parents and the home," she said. "Those early years, that's when they are bonding to their family. That nurturing, only the family can give that."

I tend to agree.

I've been involved in the kinds of playgroups that tinder is talking about. Those tended to be a complete disaster for ds when he was very little but worked well enough for dd and I benefitted a lot from the information I gathered from the other parents who attended. I've also been involved in a couple of playgroups that were much more structured (specific art/singing/storytelling activities that were planned in advance). Ds did better in those.

"Why? Why is that?"

Do we have a universal public school system in the U.S.? Absolutely.

Do we have a universal public dc system in the U.S.? No, we do not.

There's your answer.

Obviously, if universal public dc was a societal responsibility then such a program would exist.

Clearly however, there is no such program in existance.

Why is one a societal responsibility and the other not?

First you claim the U.S. is a purely capitalist society and that parents are responsible for raising their own children, then you claim that the U.S. has the social responsibility for educating those children. So are there societal responsibilities towards children or not?

Honestly, that scares me a bit.

"And I'm still waiting to hear why school is a societal need and dc is not."

See post 543.

LOLOLOL! So that's how you determine what's a "societal responsibility?" -- by what programs exist? LOLOLOL!

There is a vast difference between what a society actually provides and what a society should be responsible for providing. Just ask the millions of people living in 3rd world countries about clean water and basic sanitation.

That has got to be the funniest thing I have heard in a long time.
