Very interesting. Particularly the difference in the middle to upper income kids vs low income.

"I personally feel children need the nurture of their parents and the home," she said. "Those early years, that's when they are bonding to their family. That nurturing, only the family can give that."

I tend to agree.

"You ever heard that story about Abraham Lincoln and how he picked a jury? He'd ask, "If you call the tail of a dog a leg, then how many legs does a dog have?" Some said five, some one, and others four. Lincoln only wanted to work with the people who said four, although in a pinch he'd take a potential juror who said one. People who said five, he thought, were too easily led. People who said one at least recognized that if you call the tail a leg, you ought to call the legs something else to avoid conflating two very different parts to the dog. But people who said four, like old Abe, recognized that you can call the tail of a dog a leg, but that doesn't make it one."

Wonderful story!

"So yeah, call it whatever you like."

Thanks for the nod of approval, but it really isn't necessary.

"But calling it something else doesn't change what it is."

Exactly!

Calling it "parenting", doesn't change the fact that it's child-led homeschooling/unschooling.

So is it ok with you if I call myself a SAHM, since I'm at home with my children for more hours per week than I'm at the office?

"I'm *from* Fairview ... I live in Stillwater. Part of the reason I chose Stillwater (besides the fact of a good job offer) when i moved back to OK was because of the schools. I'm very pleased with the school system here."

Cool! Do your kids go to school in Stillwater?

"BTW, there are two schools in the Edmond district that provide b/a care."

And...?

"And at least 5 private schools that have full-day, full-time preschool."

And...?

Yes, they go to Stillwater Public Schools.

And, you said your district didn't do b/a care. Which isn't true. Some of the schools in your district do.

and if 5 schools in Edmond have full-time Prek, that pretty much negates your claim that it is rare.

"Why is one a societal responsibility and the other not?"

Perhaps because children have a developmental need for an education.

Where as, they do not have a developmental need for substitute childcare.
