Very interesting. Particularly the difference in the middle to upper income kids vs low income.
"I personally feel children need the nurture of their parents and the home," she said. "Those early years, that's when they are bonding to their family. That nurturing, only the family can give that."
I tend to agree.

"depends on the child and the day"
How many hours did you homeschool each of your children yesterday?
<>
"i would say it is more open ended - we are not big clock watchers."
We aren't big clock watchers either. However, we still follow a general schedule of general subjects daily.
How about you? What sort of general schedule of general subjects do you to you follow daily wrt to each of your children?
<>
"oh no, we do year round."
This is what we do as well :)
<>
"to educate and enhance my childrens education."
Enhancing (on an individualized, one-on-one basis) is basically why we homeschool as well :)
"Can I answer?"
Absolutely!
"We homeschooled back in the days when it was considered weird, radical, and illegal (in the mid-80's to early 90's)."
Well, to a lot of people it's *still* weird and radical, although not illegal.
<<3. What kind of records do you keep?>>
"Monthly calendar journal with files of finished work which I still have these many years later."
This is similar to what we do, although we do more of a portfolio wrt to saving/displaying past as well as current work.
<<8. What kind of educational background do you have?>>
"AA in history with a certificate in Library Technology"
Wonderful!
<<9. What are you reasons for homeschooling? How long have you been involved in homeschooling?>>
"We did it at first because it we wanted an individual education for our girls"
Yes, same here :)
<<10. How would you rate your overall homeschooling experience?>>
"Good."
Good for you. Thanks for sharing btw.
What subjects to you *currently* cover? Wrt each individual child
with the 7 year old we are doing english, math, home economics, animal science and of course pe
with the 2 year old we are doing colors, numbers, letters, puzzles, home economics and pe
as i look over the list most we do on a daily basis but the things we do to hit each one may vary from day to day, and with all of our other activities there are some days we dont get to all of them.
and some are just done when we feel like doing them."
Some, such as? Again, wrt each individual child?
these i consider more the field trip types of things we do. they tend to be the same for each child, although at the appropriate level for each child. things like trips to the zoo, to the botanical gardens, to the nature preserve, to the lake, etc......

Do you do any reading at home? What about music and art activities? Also, what is entailed in home economics?
BTW, Has your 7 year old gotten into the Magic Tree House Series? I would highly recommend it for that particular age/grade level.
"and with all of our other activities"
What other activities are your children involved in?
"there are some days we dont get to all of them."
Yes, that goes for us as well (and often in the traditional classroom too).
