Very interesting. Particularly the difference in the middle to upper income kids vs low income.

"I personally feel children need the nurture of their parents and the home," she said. "Those early years, that's when they are bonding to their family. That nurturing, only the family can give that."

I tend to agree.

"What criteria? That's the question, isn't it? Maybe there are no criteria. In that case, I'm a homeschooler, just as you are. No criteria needed."

Perhaps you need to go back and check out those ten questions wrt homeschooling again?

Is a parent homeschooling only if they say that they are?

so your daughter missed 12 days of school in one year because of illness - i would think that is alot. my kids rarely miss more than a couple of days a year. but i guess she could have gotten the flu or something.

"Since when is our own confusion legitimized by the confusion of others?"

Exactly my point.

<< there is clearly a discrepancy between what is being claimed, and what is actually being done.>>

"Maybe, maybe not, but how is that relevant to the question of whether there's a discrepancy between what you do and what you claim to do?"

Again, because I am honestly doing exactly what I claim to be doing. I wouldn't dream of lying about practices and/or philosophies which are an integral aspect of our daily family life.

"I wouldn't claim you're lying, but the claim has been made. Am I lying when I claim to homeschool? Or perhaps afterschool?"

That would depend on if you are actually homeschooling/afterschooling or not.

Bottom line - If you make a claim and do exactly what you claim to be doing, there is *no* discrepancy.

However, if you make a claim and know good and well that you are not doing what you claim to be doing, there *is* a discrepancy.
