Very interesting. Particularly the difference in the middle to upper income kids vs low income.

"I personally feel children need the nurture of their parents and the home," she said. "Those early years, that's when they are bonding to their family. That nurturing, only the family can give that."

I tend to agree.

I thought I would ask this again, since you didn't answer it before....This alternative private school that you choose to send your dd to for 4 years (3prek-1st grade), is this the same one that you considered inadequate, not meeting her needs academically, although it offered a gifted program for a couple of hours a week?

Just a greenhorn here, but when the rebuttal is "You're lying", doesn't that mean it's over?

Here are my answers as they pertain to Dylan:

1. Do you use a traditional curriculum, untraditional curriculum, or both?

Traditional school books, unit studies, library books, craft store items, toy store items, etc. Whatever is found around the house and neighborhood. Everything and anything can be used.

2. Are your homeschooling activities child-led, adult-led, or a combination of both?

Combination of both.

3. What kind of records do you keep?

Portfolios.

4. On average, how many hours a day do you homeschool?

1-2 during the week, longer on Sat.,Sun. and non-public school days.

5. What kind of daily schedule do you follow? Do you cover specific subjects at specific times (as in a tradtional classroom setting)? Or is the schedule more open ended?

Open ended but Dylan's interests last for days.

6. What subjects do you cover? Do you cover them daily? Or only on certain days of the week?

Reading, writing, social studies, math, science, music, athletics, community service, cooking, housekeeping, religion, critical thinking and art.

7. Do you homeschool according to a traditional 175-185 days per year schedule? Or on an untraditional schedule (i. e. including weekends and/or summer homeschooling actiivities)?

All year long, including holidays and vacations, up to 16 hours a day.

8. What kind of educational background do you have?

AA in history and a library technologies certificate.

9. What are you reasons for homeschooling? How long have you been involved in homeschooling?

Enrichment; 28 years.

10. How would you rate your overall homeschooling experience?

Highly successful and enjoyable.

With minor variations these questions can pertain to every child, every parent, and every family. In fact some of my anwers are plagerized from Sabina's post.

How is sabina lying?

You asked her questions; she answered them. And instead of discussing her answers, your immediate, childish response is "You're lying".

I wouldn't even consider it a rebuttal in a debate.

Sounds familiar to me. But my kids go to public school, and I haven't filed with the school district, so as far as I'm concerned it's enrichment. I might possibly go for "afterschooling" but even that sounds more regimented than what we do.
