We had a wonderful male au pair when my boys were 6 and 4, and my daughter was 8. We didn't need a role model, but we did want someone who could spend time with them and keep them occupied with fun activities a couple of days a week. Beach, playground, pool, zoo, soccer, baseball, and basketball, there was little time for video games and TV.
