A 2 year old and 17 month old twins. First she accomplished *that* through two surrogates! Wonderful what modern medicine can do.
Anyway, she doesnt work full time, she consults to several companies so is out of the home one full day then a few hours a day on other days. Sometimes for work, sometimes to go to the gym, etc.
She has a full time live in nanny, and two part time nannies. Essentially they always have someone with them and the kids. She feels she needs two to properly care for her three.
I immediately thought of all the comments her lifestyle would elicit from this board.
The day she and I met she had just come from a 2 hour session at the gym, and was then heading off to go do some shopping.
BTW, she's a complete rock star in industry, having 'retired' a year ago after a 30 year career that took her right up to the top of corporate America so she's definetly *earned* her right to do whatever the heck she wants.
But anyway, she feels she is a super hands on mom. I was curious what others would think?

now see if i were in that situation i would move - period. if the schools are that bad the neighborhood cant be that much better and i would not raise my kids in that environment. sell, the house, forget the house, my kids are more important than a piece of real estate.

I think that's disingenuous. The very act of removing the child from the traditional group setting is an unequivocal act. It's an informed choice. The HS'ing parent is saying the socialization of traditional school is not something the parent desires.

And I freely admit DH and I are sheltering our children by moving here and placing them in an arguably homogenous society where education is valued by parent and (usually) the child as a top priority.

Many parents shelter children in lots of different ways. The homeschooler does it in an undeniable way.

I remember you work in the schools and I just peeked at your profile. What do you do with the schools? Do you ever interact with homeschoolers? Just curious.

But we like the house, we like the land, we like the amenities and recreational opportunities

i think wrong crowds do exist but i think it is important for kids to learn how to and develop the self-confidence to deal with them - kind of like what your dd has done. dont you think she got more out of that than if you had just said bad kids, im gonna pull you out of this school and send you somewhere else or just hs you. i am assuming these were not matters of life or death that she was dealing with. if my child were at a school where weapons were being used i would definatley pull my kids out.

Off-topic, but do you have an opinion on same-sex education? I think that could be seen as a little sheltering, and I've read studies showing it can be either a benefit or detriment to girls, depending on the particular study! LOL

Of course it's possible--very possible. Due to many influences, the urge to rebel and peer pressure to name 2.
