A 2 year old and 17 month old twins. First she accomplished *that* through two surrogates! Wonderful what modern medicine can do.
Anyway, she doesnt work full time, she consults to several companies so is out of the home one full day then a few hours a day on other days. Sometimes for work, sometimes to go to the gym, etc.
She has a full time live in nanny, and two part time nannies. Essentially they always have someone with them and the kids. She feels she needs two to properly care for her three.
I immediately thought of all the comments her lifestyle would elicit from this board.
The day she and I met she had just come from a 2 hour session at the gym, and was then heading off to go do some shopping.
BTW, she's a complete rock star in industry, having 'retired' a year ago after a 30 year career that took her right up to the top of corporate America so she's definetly *earned* her right to do whatever the heck she wants.
But anyway, she feels she is a super hands on mom. I was curious what others would think?

<> I would say that depends on the child. I'd rather guide my children on how to properly deal with bad influences. To each his own.

I may have appeared to combine your two situations, but I have not confused the two situations. Your friends are sitting on a stale 3 year listed home; no buyer in the world will want to see it. if it's sat for 3 years, there must be something so wrong with it, it's not worth looking in to.

They know that and have taken it off the market quite a few times.

They can be taught that when they are young. They don't have to be tossed into an actual situation with bad influences to learn that though. Especially when they are young, guided instruction tends to work very well rather than figuring it out on their own.

The intervention is definately worth it but by no means can you be guarenteed of a particular good outcome. Teens really do have free will. There are no guarentees when it comes to raising kids because they are separate people with minds of their own. Influence is not the same thing as programming. And no amount of parenting can negate free will.

Most of those people are probably looking at private schools then. There are areas on LI that have horrible school districts but people are still flocking to the those areas.

I don't think you are understanding me at all. What about what I've said says I *wouldn't* guide my children on how to properly deal with bad influences?

You keep tossing that in. What have I said the precludes guided instruction?

i dont see kids in a school setting being desensitized to that at all, but i only know my kids school. what i see there are older kids going out of their way to help the younger kids, i see kids learning to accept and help those with handicaps, i see kids stepping up when someone is cruel to a schoolmate.

So you think it would have been preferable for my dd to just let the bullying take place in the interest of having bullies for friends. I think that's probably the dumbest thing I've ever read. Calling my child sheltered is your way of provoking a reaction from me. You won't get one. I'm not taking your bait. I could care less what you think of my family, tbh.
