A 2 year old and 17 month old twins. First she accomplished *that* through two surrogates! Wonderful what modern medicine can do.
Anyway, she doesnt work full time, she consults to several companies so is out of the home one full day then a few hours a day on other days. Sometimes for work, sometimes to go to the gym, etc.
She has a full time live in nanny, and two part time nannies. Essentially they always have someone with them and the kids. She feels she needs two to properly care for her three.
I immediately thought of all the comments her lifestyle would elicit from this board.
The day she and I met she had just come from a 2 hour session at the gym, and was then heading off to go do some shopping.
BTW, she's a complete rock star in industry, having 'retired' a year ago after a 30 year career that took her right up to the top of corporate America so she's definetly *earned* her right to do whatever the heck she wants.
But anyway, she feels she is a super hands on mom. I was curious what others would think?

Good looks help in life. Are you going to try and deny that? I din't just mention looks, no big surprise that you are twisting things again.

How do you know it will be an obstacle? You don't know my children. I might agree if all kids who went through the PS system didn't have any obstacles. Keeping the in the "norm" as you put it, isn't a guarantee of success either.

Our schools offer Latin, German, French, and Spanish (middle and high school). In 6th grade our kids get to take 1/4 of each so they can decide what they like.

DS is now taking Latin and loves it.

My older son has taken Spanish for 3 years and will continue in HS.

Although I do think Latin is an important language, I don't think it is the be all end all of foreign languages. I had always heard that Latin would really help in the SAT's and I've asked several people who have taken it (one was my nephew who graduated 5th in his calls of about 300 or so, with a 4.1 GPA). He really didn't say it helped him at all.
Another person I asked about this was a doctor I know very well who said it does and can help but not as much as people think. Other languages can do just as much.

I didn't say that looks and atheleticism were substitutes only that they help. Certainly you aren't going to deny that those attributes are valued in society?

I am not sure why you are bothered that I mentioned my dds good looks to jlk. She has a beautiful daughter too.....shrug.

Yes, my daughter has plenty of friends in the school.

That must be the problem, you don't understand the debate if you think it is "homeschooling is good and public school is evil."

Their children's education is that important. For us though it wasn't a sacrifice as dh makes plenty of money.

I see that the high school you graduated from doesn't offer Chinese or Japanese.

Really? Where do you see that? Perhaps my pity is well-placed, given that the graduates of your school system seem incapable of even reading English correctly, let alone a foreign language.

<> The risks appear to be high with experience too, unless you are trying to claim that hs will more likely succumb to those pressures later in life. That would be a hard concept to prove.

Our schools don't offer Chinese or Japanese. Other than the global economy I don't see much point.

I do not think Latin is the be-all, end-all of foreign language. Not at all. Many people think it is helpful, but I have a friend who is a medical professional and his son is taking Spanish.

I think Spanish is the way to go. Many job listings these days include command of the Spanish language as a real plus. My son is in Spanish and plans to take Honors Spanish throughout HS and loves it. I couldn't be happier about it, to be honest with you.
