Militants - are they for real?

Someone on another board posted this link.
http://blogs.babycenter.com/celebrities/2009/04/12/dr-laura-says-all-moms-should-stay-at-home/?scid=momstodd_20090414_A:2&pe=2U8vYLf
It's about Dr. Laura saying that all women should be SAHMs until the child is at least 3 years old.
Whether we're talking about working or staying at home, I can't quite wrap my head around what is going on inside the brains of people that apply the phrase "all women should".
Do you think militants are actually serious, or just trying to get a rise out of others?

I believe they used a kindergarten readiness test to measure cognitive skills.
>>The link did not work. The only link that worked was to an abstract of Bernal's study.<<
The link to the article worked for me.
>>"Harvey also suggested that the amount of hours worked was not as significant as the quality of parenting the children receive while their parents are home."
This is a point that has been made many times here.<<
Like I said, I was mainly showing the article because it presented different views and I thought the pp would find some interest in.
I stated how I felt in my previous post.
>>The article cited more than a single source of research and Elizabeth Harvey was from the U of Mass and stated that there was no harm done to children of working moms.
**BZZZZZZZZZ* wrong try again. I make tons of choices based on what makes me happy -- where I live, who I love, where I work, what kind of car I drive, what we do on the weekends -- hell I got divorced b/c it made ALL of us happier. nope. sorry. my happiness is just as important -- sometimes more important sometimes less but we even each other out.
If life after kids is all about what makes you happy, then have at it.
Are you in a medical field? If so, I'll take your word for it, but to me, "trauma" connotes an injury, more of an emergency situation. In any case, I was speaking of my perception of those surgeries, not of some medical dictionary definition. I would never describe them as "medical trauma." They were pretty routine as c-sections go--no emergency situation, no complications for mom or baby.
I suspect you're probably using "medical trauma" in a much more technical way than I am. IRL, I've never heard anyone who had an uncomplicated vaginal delivery refer to her child's birth as a "medical trauma," and I would find it a bit dramatic if she did. YMMV.
Sadly, the mommy olympics have only resulted in the entery to kindergarten bar being raised higher when there's no need for it.
Tell me what will be different if she RTW at 3 months or 9 month.
