Militants - are they for real?

Someone on another board posted this link.
http://blogs.babycenter.com/celebrities/2009/04/12/dr-laura-says-all-moms-should-stay-at-home/?scid=momstodd_20090414_A:2&pe=2U8vYLf
It's about Dr. Laura saying that all women should be SAHMs until the child is at least 3 years old.

Whether we're talking about working or staying at home, I can't quite wrap my head around what is going on inside the brains of people that apply the phrase "all women should".

Do you think militants are actually serious, or just trying to get a rise out of others?

Did you seriously just ask me if I was in the medical field? I was speaking of trauma in the simple dictionary sense:
Main Entry: trau·ma
Pronunciation: 'tro-m&, 'trau-
Function: noun
Inflected Form: plural traumas also trau·ma·ta /-m&t-&/
1 a : an injury (as a wound) to living tissue caused by an extrinsic agent

A surgeon cutting through several layers of skin, muscle and tissue, resulting in a wound that requires stitching and weeks of healing IS a medical trauma. What's the big deal?

To some people, yes. To others, no.

Yes, I seriously did ask. I have no idea what you do for a living, but your certainty about all this made me think perhaps you work in a medical field. I guess not.

Injury means a "harm or damage that is done or sustained," so I don't think this definition gets you where you want to go. A surgeon doesn't inflict an injury on someone.

Why is it important to you that I believe my children's births were medical trauma?

I was agreeing with you that an uncomplicated natural childbirth is not a trauma. I disagree that major abdominal surgery does not involve trauma.

Fine. We disagree.

OK. Nobody wants to have a c-section, that's for sure. I've had a lot of surgeries, so I'm sure my views are skewed.

Wishing you a very nontraumatic, uncomplicated natural childbirth in 61 days. Boy or girl?

How great is that! ;) I have two girls, and I love it that we can re-use stuff.

DH has always desperately wanted a girl. He would have been over the moon with two little princesses.

That is assuming the two are in perpetual opposition. Kids can thrive in many different environments.
