Militants - are they for real?

Someone on another board posted this link.
http://blogs.babycenter.com/celebrities/2009/04/12/dr-laura-says-all-moms-should-stay-at-home/?scid=momstodd_20090414_A:2&pe=2U8vYLf
It's about Dr. Laura saying that all women should be SAHMs until the child is at least 3 years old.
Whether we're talking about working or staying at home, I can't quite wrap my head around what is going on inside the brains of people that apply the phrase "all women should".
Do you think militants are actually serious, or just trying to get a rise out of others?

>> I traded higher income from a WOH job with an 11 hour per week commute for a lower income with no commute. Sounds like you made the same choice. What's not to get? <<
No, I've actually never made that choice. I said I COULD get a job farther away that paid more, but I have chosen not to. The last job I had with a lengthy commute paid far less than the one I hold now. And I don't have no commute. I have a blessedly short one, though.
Despite that, life is busier now. Go figure.

>> You know, I don't think it really matters. My point is that treating pg and childbirth as "medical trauma" or "injury" akin to surgery or a heart attack doesn't make sense. I'm talking about how we (society) views pg and childbirth, not about terms in a medical dictionary. <<
I don't think anyone has said that they are analagous. If I break my arm, it's a trauma, but it's nothing like a stroke, and neither is anything like childbirth. I think what people are saying is that trauma to the body is trauma to the body, period... regardless of whether it's "natural" (as you claim) or not.

I am not sure why this is a problem. <<
Because last I checked, economists are not experts in early childhood development or cognition.
I don't even think they play them on TV.

"If babies came first, they are more likely to copy that.
&nbs
but in casual conversation, over dinner or something, would your family of doctors use the word,"trauma" to describe a (complicated?) delivery?
my first baby's delivery almost resulted in a c-section.
OMG,LOL.
