Militants - are they for real?

Someone on another board posted this link.
http://blogs.babycenter.com/celebrities/2009/04/12/dr-laura-says-all-moms-should-stay-at-home/?scid=momstodd_20090414_A:2&pe=2U8vYLf
It's about Dr. Laura saying that all women should be SAHMs until the child is at least 3 years old.
Whether we're talking about working or staying at home, I can't quite wrap my head around what is going on inside the brains of people that apply the phrase "all women should".
Do you think militants are actually serious, or just trying to get a rise out of others?

Reasons why a "non-rich" family might see the value of a sahp to their family:
1) Special needs child
2) Lack of quality daycare
3) World view
The poorer you are, the more theoretical the possibility of having a SAHP, so the easier it is to see no value in it.
What I'm sayign is that whooville seems to have grownup in such circumstances or is in such circumstances now that SAH was such a distant possiblity that she discounts its value entirely.
Don't know if this is covered in "worldview," but they value a SAHP more than the extra goods that could be purchased with a second income, or a bigger home, car, etc.
I don't get how whooville doesn't get these possibilities.
This argument always bugs me:
"... but they value a SAHP more than the extra goods that could be purchased with a second income, or a bigger home, car, etc."
No, not necessarily and in most cases I know of, not at all. Most women I know who work do not work for "extra goods" (not saying some don't, just not the ones I know). They work for long-term security, a good retirement, college for their kids, a house in a good school district, things like that. They also usually like working, either directly in the sense of finding their jobs interesting and intellectually satisfying or indirectly in the sense of enjoying making a paycheck, contributing etc.

Not really. World view is the *reason* a family may value having a sahp more than the additional money a second income would bring.

I don't agree.....unless you are saying that someone who doesn't have a choice but to be a sahp might not see any value if there isn't a choice in the situation?
