Militants - are they for real?

Someone on another board posted this link.
http://blogs.babycenter.com/celebrities/2009/04/12/dr-laura-says-all-moms-should-stay-at-home/?scid=momstodd_20090414_A:2&pe=2U8vYLf
It's about Dr. Laura saying that all women should be SAHMs until the child is at least 3 years old.

Whether we're talking about working or staying at home, I can't quite wrap my head around what is going on inside the brains of people that apply the phrase "all women should".

Do you think militants are actually serious, or just trying to get a rise out of others?

I think it varies. My hospital does not do routine episiotomies at all anymore.

That makes my teeth grind. I cannot believe that there are still laws against homebirths. Grrr....

My second choice is a hospital waterbirth. The hospital nearest me is more like what you would call a birthing centre - very naturalistic, few drugs available and so on. The hospital I went to with Josh does all the 'serious' stuff - inductions, c-sections, epidurals, etc.

Hmmmm. So I guess I can only expect the bun in the oven to go on to grad school then, not my boys? And none of them will ever aspire to a doctoral degree, I guess.

>> Whoovillereject's whole attitude seems to be that every family needs to make in the high $50s rather than the low $40s to be financially secure, and I just don't agree with that view <<

Regional cost of living and family size and individual circumstances/needs both factor in to the equation, so I think it's hard to say what amount of income makes any given family financially secure.

Oh no, the NHS hasn't done routine episiotomies for years. Mine was necessary because he had to be pulled out by suction cup (ventouse).

I REALLY didn't want one initially and hoped to avoid it, but in the final analysis it wasn't anything too major.

My son had to be hoovered out of there as well because his heart rate kept dropping.

No, you are talking about results of the decision, not the reasons for the decision....at least in my life, can't speak for others of course and why they sah or go back to work.
