Militants - are they for real?

Someone on another board posted this link.
http://blogs.babycenter.com/celebrities/2009/04/12/dr-laura-says-all-moms-should-stay-at-home/?scid=momstodd_20090414_A:2&pe=2U8vYLf
It's about Dr. Laura saying that all women should be SAHMs until the child is at least 3 years old.
Whether we're talking about working or staying at home, I can't quite wrap my head around what is going on inside the brains of people that apply the phrase "all women should".
Do you think militants are actually serious, or just trying to get a rise out of others?

if without a second income, activities must be limited or cut out all together (as has been expressed on this board before),then the position is a HTWOH.
So ladybug shouldn't have raised her kid? She got pg accidentally--what did you expect her to do? Talk about rude.
And you didn't exactly "find" 2 kids that needed taking care of. You chose to marry a guy with 3 kids, knowing that you would be raising 2 of those kids. According to your own logic, if college was a priority, you would have put your education first instead of getting married and becoming a stepmom.
I give her credit for raising her kid *and* finishing college at 22. It's more than you did, so you can hardly criticize her.
Ok, if it's the order that shows your priorities, let's look at YOUR priorities. Your first priority was to get married--at age 19 if memory serves me right--to a man with 3 kids. Then raise your stepkids. Then go to college and finish in your early 30s. So I guess your kids won't see education as much of a priority after all. You put marriage and raising stepkids first.
And everybody knows who you are.
So if you haven't heard of it, it can't be true? You've never heard of a dad or an adoptive parent getting leave for a new baby? Parental leave is out there, and it obviously isn't just for recovering from childbirth, since dads and adoptive parents get it.
I told you what the policy is at my university. One of my coworkers (a dad) has taken two semesters off in the last 3 years for the birth of his children. You've worked in the auto industry your whole professional career up to now. It doesn't sound like you're familiar with any other kind of industry or setting.
I disagree with you because you and I see life completely differently. I've never known you to agree with me on anything either--in this very post you're trying to tell me I'm wrong about the parental leave policy in my own workplace!
your perspective is interesting.
maybe NCLB does have something to do with whiny parents who don't want to put much effort forth like i know it is my parents did.

You're welcome. I think it's great that you finished school under difficult circumstances, and I bet your dd will admire you for it one day.
And honestly, I think whoville did something exceptional by becoming an engineer despite her circumstances. Too bad she can't see that she doesn't need to pretend to fit into some "rule" about whose kids are going to college.

New fathers are eligible for (unpaid) leave under FMLA. This has been the case for years! In my state they are eligible for 6 weeks partially paid leave, same as new mothers. Of course, not *every* employee is eligible, but yeah... it's kind of hard to believe that someone has never heard of a new father getting leave.
