Militants - are they for real?

Someone on another board posted this link.
http://blogs.babycenter.com/celebrities/2009/04/12/dr-laura-says-all-moms-should-stay-at-home/?scid=momstodd_20090414_A:2&pe=2U8vYLf
It's about Dr. Laura saying that all women should be SAHMs until the child is at least 3 years old.

Whether we're talking about working or staying at home, I can't quite wrap my head around what is going on inside the brains of people that apply the phrase "all women should".

Do you think militants are actually serious, or just trying to get a rise out of others?

You don't have to be rich to be in that position. Upper middle class will do fine. Which makes it more than 1%.

Don't feel bad - we lost enough to have paid off the mortgage.

Thanks again. :-)

I do wonder what message whoville sent to her stepkids though if she waited to get her education. Perhaps that education isn't important, as she seems to believe that is the message that is sent if college is not complete before having kids? I mean, at least I did both simultaneously and didn't put education off. She hasn't answered my questions yet though (that I've seen but I'm not totally caught up on the thread), so I dont know...

I got my excellent public education back in the 70's. Back then, both students and teachers had far more leeway.

I only have about $9,000 in one retirement account after working nearly 4 years here -- I have about $25,000 total in my other one (it used to be near $40,000 and I lost that much of it due to the economy)

I have to agree with you. Not everyone has a TON of money in their 401K and many of us would be very happy saving that much.

It's not that homebirth is illegal. It's just illegal for a midwife to attend a birth without a physician present. And then because of liability issues, there are very few physicians who can or will attend a home birth. So if you want to have a home birth, you either do it unattended, or you find a practioner who is willing to deliver the baby even though the law says she (it's almost always a "she") can't.
