Militants - are they for real?

Someone on another board posted this link.
http://blogs.babycenter.com/celebrities/2009/04/12/dr-laura-says-all-moms-should-stay-at-home/?scid=momstodd_20090414_A:2&pe=2U8vYLf
It's about Dr. Laura saying that all women should be SAHMs until the child is at least 3 years old.

Whether we're talking about working or staying at home, I can't quite wrap my head around what is going on inside the brains of people that apply the phrase "all women should".

Do you think militants are actually serious, or just trying to get a rise out of others?

I don't think the jury is out at all on NCLB. It just isn't working. I don't think I've seen or heard of any data at all to show that it is. Everything I've seen points to it being a failure.

I saw a New Yorker cartoon recently where a couple are talking to a financial advisor, and the caption says something like:

"Advice? Sure, I have some advice! Invent a time machine, go back 16 months and convert everything to cash!!"

The part that people complain about with NCLB is just a *portion* of the legislation - some of that has failed. Most of it was a reauthorization of prevous legislation from the 1960's. There is ALOT of good in it:

I don't like NCLB either, but I think one of the biggest frustrations is lack of funding. We spend a lot of money on testing that hasn't told us all that much that is new and not enough on doing something about the problem.

I agree with obama (and you) there.; The interventions we have are all aimed at trying to make up for what doesn't happen at home.

But I don't think education in the good old days was all so wonderful.

Ahhhh. Yeah, I thought you were in education. I'm an adjunct too, at a law school.
