Militants - are they for real?

Someone on another board posted this link.
http://blogs.babycenter.com/celebrities/2009/04/12/dr-laura-says-all-moms-should-stay-at-home/?scid=momstodd_20090414_A:2&pe=2U8vYLf
It's about Dr. Laura saying that all women should be SAHMs until the child is at least 3 years old.

Whether we're talking about working or staying at home, I can't quite wrap my head around what is going on inside the brains of people that apply the phrase "all women should".

Do you think militants are actually serious, or just trying to get a rise out of others?

That would be me. I have the same options to save for retirement as a WOHM as a I did as a SAHM, IRAs.

Actually you do not have to pay in to receive benefits. Everyone has the option to receive benefits based on their payments or a spouses payments (or an ex-spouses payments if they were married for at least 10 years). They can take which ever payment is higher.

In cases where one spouse had a much higher income than the other it often financially beneficial for the lower wage earner to use their spouses benefits. That is what my mom did and quite possibly what I will do.

<<Yes, I am aware of that but you still would have to plan (if you choose to) like a sahp would have to.>>

Actually no, a wohp would plan differently than a sahp due to differences in the laws/regulations.

<< Not all jobs offer retirement plans and ss most likely will not be there.>>

Yes, I have clearly stated a number of times that not all jobs offer retirement plans, I haven't made any claims about social security but of course that is different between sah and woh as well.

You didn't need a spouse for contributions to an ira when you were

"I haven't made any claims about social security but of course that is different between sah and woh as well."

Not really, everyone has the option to receive benefits based one either what whey paid into the system, or what their spouse paid into the system . They can take whichever is the higher amount.

In household where there is a huge difference in wages the lower income earner often uses their spouses benefit because it is more financially beneficial. So they would receive the same benefit as a WOHS that they would as a SAHS.

All of our expenses are paid out of household income, not individual income.

Then how would you repay the debt without it?

One spouse making $120K and the other making $60K certainly isn't rich but it's also a very small segment of the population.

options are just different for a SAHM and a WOHM.
