Militants - are they for real?

Someone on another board posted this link.
http://blogs.babycenter.com/celebrities/2009/04/12/dr-laura-says-all-moms-should-stay-at-home/?scid=momstodd_20090414_A:2&pe=2U8vYLf
It's about Dr. Laura saying that all women should be SAHMs until the child is at least 3 years old.

Whether we're talking about working or staying at home, I can't quite wrap my head around what is going on inside the brains of people that apply the phrase "all women should".

Do you think militants are actually serious, or just trying to get a rise out of others?

So, you would disregard someone with 17 years of PARENTING under their belt? Someone who has had TWO children with disabilities (one with ADHD, one very special needs) AND has had a step dd with huge learning disabilities? You'd disregard ALL that experience JUST because I've been woh all that time????

Seems quite silly if you ask me, but of course you are entitled to your opinion -- however limited it is.

Yup. That seems to be my take on it too. Oh, and you have to add that she then turns her hypocritical self around and bashes wohms quite publicly.

BLECH!

I loathe hypocrisy. And frankly, it frightens me that there are people who think so extremely about things. What ever happened to shades of grey?

That's okay. I have no regard for your preference to give your children away rather than work to support them. We'll just have to agree to disagree with each other's ideals.

No, it is true that bad parenting does not get any better for being done for many years. However, if a parent manages to get their kids to adulthood successfully, I think it reasonable to assume that the parenting those parents did was not desperately bad.

When people insist that children of WOHMs will have problems and miserable lives, it is a little funny to those of us who WOH and have kids who are either adults or close to it.

I actually had to ASK my mother a few years ago whether or not she had worked when I was a kid, because she was the one that dropped us off at school, and she was the one who picked us up after school. Plus I couldn't remember anything before 3 years old or so. Turns out she was a respiratory therapist. As a child, I had absolutely no indication that I was being "abandoned" by her, LOL. I saw her just as much as a child with a SAHM.
