Militants - are they for real?

Someone on another board posted this link.

It's about Dr. Laura saying that all women should be SAHMs until the child is at least 3 years old.
Whether we're talking about working or staying at home, I can't quite wrap my head around what is going on inside the brains of people that apply the phrase "all women should".
Do you think militants are actually serious, or just trying to get a rise out of others?

>> but i don't think the cost of childcare is an excuse for SAH. <<
An excuse? No, not in my opinion.
However, if a couple runs the numbers and finds that one or the other salary will be eaten up by the cost of child care, then it might not make sense for them both to work.
It's just simple math in some situations.

And this sounds very similar to most of the SAHMs I know.

I know I have mentioned this before, but often a move to a lower COL area means lower salaries as well. DH thinks we'd be "rich" if we moved to his hometown, but I keep reminding him that I could not make the same amount of money there that I do here, and neither could he for that matter.

Your post puts me in mind of my autistic nephew and his parents. There was no way his parents could have planned that they would have an autistic child who will require life long care and supervision. Not only do they not know what kind of retirement they will ever be able to have, they also have to consider what provisions they can make for him now so that after they are gone, he has the care he needs.

But if you're there 24 x 7, you can hold a tarp over their heads.
