Militants - are they for real?

Someone on another board posted this link.
http://blogs.babycenter.com/celebrities/2009/04/12/dr-laura-says-all-moms-should-stay-at-home/?scid=momstodd_20090414_A:2&pe=2U8vYLf
It's about Dr. Laura saying that all women should be SAHMs until the child is at least 3 years old.

Whether we're talking about working or staying at home, I can't quite wrap my head around what is going on inside the brains of people that apply the phrase "all women should".

Do you think militants are actually serious, or just trying to get a rise out of others?

I don't believe all woman are cut out to be parents. It's only logical they don't have children.

I wasn't SAYING anything, period. I was asking a question.

Does ANYONE here know what this planning is that we are supposed to do in order to ensure that we won't have to work until our children are are grown?

I keep hearing "Plan, they should plan, they didn't plan adequately".

My question is HOW? HOW DO YOU PLAN? WHAT PLANS WOULD BE ADEQUATE FOR THAT?

There is a fair amount of middle ground between "glued to child 24/7" and "in another country permanently." That said, I have known families where one parent did live in different country from the kids (in one family it was the mother, in the other it is the father) and in both cases the kids are great and well adjusted and have close relationships to both parents.

Another example might be the generations of British kids who were shipped off to boarding schools at age 7 or 8. Probably some of those kids were messed up, but they did build and maintain an empire all the same.

Still, not seeing any need for the 24/7 glued to child thing does not mean that I "believe" in long distance parenting.

Of course children are influenced by many areas, but since I don't have the standard that you mentioned, it's really not a problem for me.

Well that's not true, I think it's very important that I raise my children and that others raise their children as well.

"Don't you see what a huge loss to society that would be?"

No I don't.

<<Working mothers make so many excuses as to why they cannot raise and be with the children they gave birth to. >>

A few posts ago you were stating how many peole influence children; teachers, coaches and etc....are you saying that you are with your child when this occurs, basically you are with your child 24/7/365?

There is a place where the laws and organization of society would fit your ideals really well, Afghanistan, especially now that the Taliban are back in force. They don't see any reason for women to be educated either, for much the same reasons you give.
