Someone on another board posted this link.
http://blogs.babycenter.com/celebrities/2009/04/12/dr-laura-says-all-moms-should-stay-at-home/?scid=momstodd_20090414_A:2&pe=2U8vYLf
It's about Dr. Laura saying that all women should be SAHMs until the child is at least 3 years old.

Whether we're talking about working or staying at home, I can't quite wrap my head around what is going on inside the brains of people that apply the phrase "all women should".

Do you think militants are actually serious, or just trying to get a rise out of others?

You do not receive the benefit of any mother in the workforce? Your children have no teachers who are also mothers? You have never visited a female doctor or dentist? You delivered your children without the assistance of any doctor, nurse or nurse's assistant who was a woman with children? You never sought advice from a more experienced mother/sales clerk in a Babies R Us? You live in a town or community that is not and never has been represented by a female politician with children? Your life has never been touched by a woman, also a mother, acting in a professional capacity?

I think any woman who believes that all mothers should drop out of the workforce upon the birth of their children should go one year without using the services of any working mother, and then tell us how that year went.

I really need to read the thread in its entirety before I reply. I just asked the same question.

I'm really not getting how this would work much past the age of 7 or 8 years old, are my children (now 11 and 13) so unique that they have a social life outside of their family?

Exactly. The child is going to be in class, and whether I'm folding laundry, making a spreadsheet, giving a presentation, or standing on my head yodeling while they are in class has absolutely no impact on their day.

It's a double standard to call oneself a mother and a working mother.

"Why would it matter what type of work is being done while a child was being cared for, as long as the child was receiving good quality care?"

Questions like this are only asked by woman who put mothers in the same category as anyone else. Maybe a gorilla could raise your children?

You're not raising yours either.
