You don't have to be independently wealthy to ct sah. We have a single sahd at our school. He is retired military and his income is his pension. There are several families where both spouses are now retired (some military some not) and - *if* they chose- both parents cold be sah parents.

But a spouse who isn't highly educated may not have the choice to WOH or SAH. That spouse may not make enough to cover daycare and the higher tax bracket.
