Promotions - do you think that your working status plays a role?

Working moms - do you think that your status as a mom limits you on how far you can be promoted in your field?

SAHMs - do you think that your spouse is more promotable because your status gives him more flexibility at work?

I'm meeting my former boss and his wife for lunch this weekend, which is what promted me to ask this question!

My own story - my former boss was really great and he always had confidence in me and my abilities; he was also a family man so he understood and encourage me that family comes first.

I think my working status plays a role because if I weren't working, I wouldn't get promoted.

Very true! Do you think that having more outside obligations has affected your career?

I've never held a corporate job so I really can't answer your questions but, I'm curious, did you at any time during those 7 years, ask for the promotionthat should have gone with those added duties and responsiblities?

No I didn't because I felt like I couldn't give them the commitment with having to deal with kids at home. He very well could've asked for it, that's a good point. I am happy that he is working out, I was in on the hiring process and didn't want to leave my department in bad shape when I left. I guess I do the what-ifs if I hadn't had children so early in my career?
