Yes but I guess to me the "obsessive" love is a result of it being a "vampire" book.

I agree with ducky that tweens don't have much perspective. But I also don't think it makes much difference that Edward is a vampire. The issues involving teen sexuality, unhealthy relationships and suicide in the books are quite real--and those are the issues that made me reluctant to have my 12-yr-old read the book on her own.
