(Felicia you especially will like this) This mornign on the way to school Liza asked me about a retired couple who live a few units down from us. She said "momma if they're retired how do they get money to live on?" I explained a little about Social Security (but not much since I highly doubt it will exist in Liza's adulthood) and then alot about retirement funds and how momma puts money away frmo each pay check and how interest works so that when I retire I'll have some money to live on. She said "when you're 65 right?" and I said "probably more like 70 in my case but yeah that's the idea" she got very quiet and said "momma, shouldn't I have one of those? I'm going to have to retire someday I better start saving!" She was SO earnest i couldn't chuckle even though i wanted to so I said "well Liza that usually starts when you get a good job after college, right now it's momma's job to take care of you but we do have savings accounts for you so have a good head start" she said 'oh good. b/c I don't want to end up with no money when I retire, so I better make sure I start saving the m inute I get my first job"
I swear.... an 8 year old financial planner in the making! But I do love that she knows without a doubt she will work and save when she's out of college -- that's my girl!
