If you haven't heard this heartbreaking story yet, prepare yourself.  A nanny was arrested for killing two children in her care, and then tried to kill herself :(  The mom discovered it after coming home from taking a third child to a swimming lesson.  The father of the family is an executive at Comcast/NBC; it's hitting our NY iVillage offices pretty hard, especially for those who know the family.

NYPD: Nanny stabs 2 children to death in Upper West Side home

I just can't wrap my head around how something like this happens.  I've had my children in daycare before, and know how hard it is to put your faith in another to take care of your children.  The article said that the nanny had been employed by them for 2 years, and even has a son of her own.  How do you ever see something like this coming?  What are things to look for in your caregiver, are there warning signs that it's time to look elsewhere for childcare?

How do you build trust with your caregiver?

This is just SO heartbreaking. I read somewhere that they did a thorough screening process - even spending 9 DAYS with this woman and her family before hiring her. It just feels so scary to think that you just never know when someone will snap and do something horrific like this!

I just have no words. What an unbelievable tragedy.  I just can't even imagine...

Honestly, I've had a hard time leaving my kiddos with anyone but family or friends that I know very well.  I know that isn't always a possibility for everyone though. It sounds like this family really did their homework when they were choosing a caregiver.  I don't know how you build more trust than what they seem to have done with her?

Heartbreaking.

OMG, That's beyond words, How terrible!

I wonder if there were signs BEFORE that she was abusing those kids or if she just snapped, Either way the crime is awful, Those poor parents and only living child!
