Does anyone have any good advice for a working mom on making a "break" from work at the end of the day and on weekends, so I don't always feel like a working mom. A lot of the time I do that well...but sometimes I feel that thinking about work can interfere with home life.
Also, does anyone ever feel that their job **is** their life and that somehow their home life is the **extra** on top of work.
BTW, I don't work very long hours, or travel...but I've been promoted recently and I'm finding that my job is demanding more from me...

We did have one spontaneous combustion though. Would you believe the rabbits litter box spontaneously combusted (we were using wood chips)??? By the time I figured out where the smoke was coming from, the litter box had melted into the carpet.
I am a compulsive lint trap cleaner and I am the doubler checker at night
for coffee pot and candles and...
But when I'm away... I don't think about it, That's what insurance is for
isn't it???

Crockpots are generally safe from electrical problems - they are designed that way. Is your house's electricity safe? If so, you should be ok.
In any event, that's what they are for! If you feel uncomfortable - use your crockpot and cook all day (8 hours) on the weekends. Do it 5-10 times, until you are comfortable with the fact that you won't burn your house down. Then, use it while you are at work.
I don't have kids. I have husband who does 50% of the housework. That's no joke. Sometimes, he does 60-70%. We live with a dirty house. We occasionally (twice a month) take 2 hours on Saturday to clean - this is on top of our normal duties (laundry, cooking). But half the time, we skip that. When the bathroom sink is getting grody, I just wipe it up with the washcloth sitting there, rinse it, and hang it to dry. When the kitchen floor gets sticky, I wear socks until the weekend.
When you have help with the housework, it's easier. I try new recipes now and again so that cooking is "fun", not a chore. My job does feel like my life, but this year, I've been making an effort to change that. Whenever possible I leave work after working less than 9 hours (my typical day for the last 3 years was 9-10 hours). This helps make me feel human. I get up at 5 or 6 am and run or go to the gym, every day. This is my time to think and daydream and just get away from everything. I schedule nights out scrapbooking or days out quilting - nope, I don't get dishes, cooking, or cleaning done, but so what?
And occasionally, like tonight, I spend an hour on the internet. I think I'm going to go pack my lunch, have another glass of wine, and do some crocheting, though.
