About 10 yrs ago I was listening to a VP at my company (fortune 500) and realized that she had it all - the career/kids/husband (not in any particular order).

if i could afford it I would have a houscleaning service, a drycleaning service that picked up and delivered, and someone to cook for me. I live in a condo specifically so I don't have to mow, garden, etc...

if I had the money? In a new york minute I'd outsource that stuff....

Heck, if I could find maid service that would commit to a specific time of day on cleaning day, I'd have my cleaning service BACK! It was AWESOME! I miss it.

We have always outsourced the once a fortnight heavy cleaning. SAH/WOH/ptWOH, with and without kids.

I would love for her to come every week or even twice weekly (twice a week would mean LAUNDRY!!), but that would cost too much. I would also love to have a once weekly gardener. I like to grocery shop, so I would not hire that out. Same for cooking.

Plus, outsourcing is nothing new. People have been doing it for generations.

Actually I don't know how her ability to find time with her children is different than a woh FATHER with a sahm.

I'd outsource yard work. Neither dh nor I have great enthusiasm for it nor the time to really put into it to make it look the way that we want. When we had a pool, I would have loved to outsource that. The rest I either don't mind doing, actually like doing, or insource it via dh and the kids (down to one now. In the near future, I'll only have dh to insource what I don't want/like to do--mainly bathrooms and hand washing dishes.) We do outsource childcare and education for Dylan--dc at one time and now education and afterschool care. I don't see a real difference between scheduling time with Dylan now as a wm than scheduling time with each of the 3 girls when I was a sahm/homeschooling mom. Things still have to be coordinated around everything else going on the family.

If I had the money, I would outsource my cooking, housecleaning, and laundry, but it would be so that I could spend more time with my children, not more time at work.

It sounds like this person is somewhat wealthy, and this is the kind of lifestyle these people have. They can afford to pay for everything they want or need.

I would be delighted to have that kind of lifestyle.... ;-)

I am not comfortable with outsourcing many of our household responsibilities.
