Parents and school involvement

My question stems from a personal experience. My middle child is starting kindergarten next week. I've become fairly close with one of my dd's friend's moms- this is her first child entering the school system. She WOH, I do not, plus I have experience with the school, so she's been calling me with questions and comments.

It started to go bad when she called to complain that the kindy orientation is during the day- when she is working. Then it led to complaints about the parents' read aloud program (when the kids are in library) and other opportunities for volunteerism in the school. I get that these things aren't convenient for her, but I'm getting annoyed with the complaining. How can the kids have an orientation at night when they go to school during the day? None of these events are mandatory for parents or kids. And plenty of activities are scheduled for evenings: Back to school night, the PTA picnic, etc.

She thinks because she can't participate, no one should be able to, apparently. Plenty of WOHP do show up for these things. I think she's being unrealistic if she thought she could put a couple of kids through school without ever taking a vacation day. Am I wrong? Am I missing something here?

I was willing to let it go. Sometimes not answering a question is the nicest thing someone can do. You are the one who pushed.

I said you don't deserve an answer because it would take time and effort to spell it all out and neither one of you is open to what other people are trying to say here. You are both determined to hold a position you held at the get-go. Since you've indicated no desire whatsoever to absorb or ponder what other people have experienced and learned and seem adamently opposed to a core group of posters on this board, you just don't deserve further consideration.

I'm curious to know who here on this board lives in inferior school districts and how you know they do. I'm also curious about who is constantly complaining. If you could share this information, maybe this discussion could be more productive.

Why wouldn't they be getting a good education if it is a good district? What are they a good district for?

It's okay, I'm already over my three times a quarter limit as well.

I don't think it is an "extreme" since you already e-mailed teacher 4 times in 3 weeks.

That's completely untrue. Hazeleyes asked you a question. I certainly did not. Yet, for some reason, you felt obligated to answer Hazel's question in a post to *me.*

I merely pointed out to Hazel (not you) how funny that there was simply an insult and a non-answer.

Sorry you wasted your time. I thought it was obvious I don't value the information you provided.

Spelling in the 4th-6th grades in our school is a list of words (and definitions) that are taken from their daily work in a variety of the core
